The new PAA Tour Level Points Structure was developed by the PAA Points
Committee. The following is an overview of how the PAA Tour Level Points
Structure is going to work. The committee is comprised of 12 PAA Tour level
members ranging from rookies to veteran anglers, 6 Elite Series Pros and 6 FLW
Pros. The goal of the committee was to accomplish the difficult task of ranking
pro anglers on two separate tours. A formula was made from a statistics
professor at a university that equally distributes 200 points based on ACTUAL
field sizes not published field sizes, since field sizes vary at each event this
gives the best mathematical solution to distribute points based on performance
of each angler at a particular event regardless of field size. If a particular
event has a published field size of 150 but 134 anglers compete in the event,
then the standings are calculated with 134 anglers. This formula helps
distribute points equally on performance with the varying field sizes between
100 and 150 boats.
The Formula:
The formula to calculate each individual score, is as follows,
“=Round((([Number of boats in the tournament]+1)-[The anglers finish])*([200 for
non PAA Tour events or 225 for PAA Tour events]/[Number of boats in the
tournament]),1)”.
For example, if someone was to finish 17th in an eligible, Tour level event
(Elite, Tour, Series) with an ACTUAL field size of 147, the formula would read,
“=Round(((147+1)-17)*(200/147),1)”, which would equal a point value of 178.2
points awarded for the event This formula is calculated per participant, per
event of the top level tournaments considered to be of professional status as
deemed by the PAA points Committee and PAA Board of Directors.
BEST OF 8 PER YEAR:
The best ranking eight (8) qualified events are totaled per year for a total of
the previous three (3) years, resulting in a maximum potential of twenty-four
(24) best tournaments to be scored. Qualified events are the following:
PAA Tournament Series
FLW Tour
FLW Series
FLW Forrest Wood Cup
Bassmaster Elite Series
Bassmaster Classic
Toyota Texas Bass Classic
Bassmaster Opens and Stren Series events are no longer points accumulating
events on the PAA Tour Level Points Structure. The resulting scores, ranked
greatest to least, rank the members of the PAA for their Standings on this list.
Anglers who are Tour level members and do not compete currently on any of the
qualified Tours will be ranked according to their previous years qualified
points. If the angler does not accumulate points then he/she will be ranked
according to their membership date, longest term member to shortest term member.
TIE BREAKERS:
If there is a TIE, the highest ranking year shall be the tie breaker, if the
highest ranking year is a tie, it will go to the second highest ranking year, if
there is still a tie, it will then go to the single highest ranking finishes. If
the single highest finish is a tie, the second highest finish will be the tie
breaker, and so forth, accordingly, until the tie is broken.
NEW TOUR MEMBERS:
With the current point system, a new Tour Level member, upon joining, will be
able to compete in all “open” events, but will have a one year probationary
term, from the date of which they joined, of which they will not be able to
participate in “invitational” events from the PAA Points Structure such as
qualifying off the PAA Points Structure list for the TTBC. The new Tour level
member is still eligible to compete at the TTBC if he/she qualifies from the PAA
Tournament Series Events. His/Her point’s standings will be posted among the
other PAA members to show their current PAA ranking. After which the
probationary term is over, all previous three years finishes accumulated will be
eligible, and the member will be able to take part fully in all qualifying
events. For example, if a person who has been fishing eligible Professional
level tournaments for several years or more, decides to join, after one year
will be able to count all three years history, even though they have only been a
member for one year.
BONUS POINTS STRUCTURE FOR PAA EVENTS:
There will be 25 extra points awarded for each PAA Tournament Series and the
Toyota Texas Bass Classic tournament will work under the same formula as the PAA
Standings mentioned above. This means that the formula will be based on 225
total points for all PAA Tournament Series Events* instead of 200 for a regular
non PAA event, “=Round((([Number of boats in the tournament]+1)-[The anglers
finish])*([225 for a PAA Tour events]/[Number of boats in the tournament]),1)”.
This makes PAA Tournament Series events more valuable in relation to points than
other Tour level events.
TOUR LEVEL MEMBERSHIP:
As of November 12, 2008, in order to be eligible for PAA Tour Level
membership, an anglers must be fishing a minimum of 4 events in one of these
circuits: BASS Elite, FLW Tour, FLW Series. Anglers must be PAA Tour level
members to accumulate points on the PAA Points Structure.
The PAA Points Structure only accumulates points from the PAA Tournament Series,
Elite Series, BM Classic, FLW Tour, FW Cup, and FLW Series. As of November 12,
2008 all current Tour level members have the right to maintain their Tour level
membership status (if there is no lapse in renewal) even if they no longer
compete on the Elite Series, FLW Tour, FLW Series. If there is a lapse in
renewal then the individual is no longer eligible for Tour Level membership
unless he/she once again begins fishing events that make him eligible to meet
the criteria for Tour level status. If an individual meets all of the criteria
to become a Tour level member, they MUST sign up at the Tour level to
participate in any/all PAA sanctioned events.
*PAA Team events will not be counted in the PAA Points Structure.*
