Bass Fishing’s Next Superstar?
April 17, 2008While Dave Wolak claimed the big fish at this morning’s Toyota Texas Bass Classic Pro-Am event with a 10-07, the impressiveness of his catch was diminished slightly by the winner of the amateur big bass.
Miles Bivins won that award and while the weight of his fish didn’t eclipse that of Wolak’s, pound-for-pound, year-for-year, he did a better job. After all, Bivins, from Amarillo, Texas, caught a fish that weighed nearly nine pounds. That’s one pound for every year of the nine year old’s age.
Yes, Texas, the youth beat his older peers with a bass that may be every bit as old as him.
Like a true pro, Bivins professed not to remember what lure enticed the big fish.
His doubled his previous best, a four pounder. While most of us tend to overestimate the weigh of our big fish, he remained calm, cool and collected both during and after the fight, under the impression that it couldn’t have weighed more than five pounds.
He was led to his personal best fish by Florida pro Terry Scroggins, who captained the winning team at the 2007 TTBC.
A nine pounder at nine years old…..one can only wonder what he’ll do at 23 or 24.
